![]() A very popular two-step method is called "edge matte and core matte". This brings me to my other point: fine keys are not done in one step. You'll have an easier time when keying if you can rent a camera that does raw recording or ProRes 4444.īut like I said earlier, I actually got a very good INITIAL result on this footage even though it's recorded in AVC encoding. I always advise that green screens should be recorded in a raw format, or ProRes 4444 as a second choice that's typically just as good. A little noise can convince you that the edges are right, and observing the camera characteristics is part of a good photo composite. Pros will also always add grain back to the composite that matches the camera grain. That way the grain doesn't contribute to the key. You may have done this, but you might improve your result by denoising before keying. I like to recommend that keyer since it is very good and very accessible, but I don't think anything like that is available in After Effects. I got a very good initial result with the DeltaKeyer in Fusion. I gave it a try and I actually don't have a problem with the lighting. better.ĭisclaimer - I've edited shows that have had excellent green screens and others that have sucked and noted the differences. Shit's razor sharp right now and in my experience, you want the green screen to be lit up like Times Square and thrown out of focus and you want to light everything. Throw a light BEHIND your guy between the wall and aimed at his back. Nice and even.įORGOT ONE LAST INGREDIENT - Backlight your subject. Next, light that green wall with a Key and Fill light that are the same color temperature as your other lights. ![]() Got another 10ft? 6ft? 3ft? Anything helps, the goal is to throw that wall out of focus. Looking at your current setup - I'm not saying it IS but it LOOKS TO ME like your subject and your green screen are sharing the same lights OR like your guy is under tungstens and your wall is under fluorescents - it just has that look.įor starters, increase the distance between your subject and your green screen, if at all possible. Hey OP to get less awful and Green Screening, you've gotta light your Green Screen as if it's another person in your video. Its still not perfect, but its half decent I think now. UPDATE: Thank you all for your help! I moved the studio lights around, got a real chair instead of a fake couch, changed some settings on the camera, and did some different work in AE. Can anyone get a better key out of this content? I'm not even sure if its on my recording end or my editing end. ![]() The key on that isn't super great, but that's okay since this was just a test. I'm sitting in a chair I draped with a green cloth. I'm shooting on a Canon C70 in 4K 60fps on a painted green screen with 4 studio lights. Specially I'm talking about the shadows on my arms and the area around my fingers as I move in the frame shared below as well as just the general hard separation from the background. I now have a studio I can perfectly light and yet my footage still looks mediocre at best. I've been doing this embarrassingly long time now and I still for the life of me cannot get a proper key on my green screen footage. Looking for something more local?
